High-tech device keeps kids safe on Warwick Valley school bus

Posted: Updated:

A special school bus is rolling down Warwick Valley streets and it may keep kids safer.

The high-tech school bus is equipped with a GPS system that allows bus drivers to call for help in emergency situations and alert police in case of hijackings. Director of Transportation Robert Zeller says the device monitors speed, mechanical problems and tracks the bus?s exact location.

Zeller hopes the technology, on loan for one year as part of a pilot study, will replace the black boxes and video monitors currently in use without increasing the district?s budget.
