Prayers answered for Florida Catholic schoolPosted: Updated:
The New York Archdiocese announced which schools will close Friday under its realignment plan. St. Joseph School in Florida was saved from the chopping block.
The archdiocese instituted the plan to address the declining number of Catholics in New York City and lower Westchester in favor of growing numbers further north. And while St. Joseph will remain open, grades sixth through eighth will no longer be offered. The school will also be closely monitored to ensure it continues to grow and be effective, according to the archdiocese. The archdiocese says it will be reviewing enrollment in the lower grades to determine whether they will re-open sixth, seventh and eighth in the future.
