Riverkeeper takes Entergy to court over leaks at Indian Point

The environmental group, Riverkeeper, notified Entergy Tuesday that they are filing a lawsuit in federal court over radioactive leaks at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.
The group claims Entergy violated federal law by not quickly notifying the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) about recent radioactive leaks at the Buchanan plant. Construction workers first discovered a small leak in the wall of the Indian Point Two?s spent fuel pool last fall. Since then, test wells dug on the site have found ground water contamination at several points under the plant.
Entergy spokesman Jim Steets says the company notified all of the state and federal agencies it?s required to, which includes the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation. However, Riverkeeper?s suit will claim the EPA should have been notified 24 hours after the leak was discovered.
