NJ man gets maximum sentence for crash that injured Chester cop
The New Jersey man convicted of nearly killing a Chester cop last July was sentenced to 25 years in state prison Monday. Police say Officer Robert Ferrara?s life nearly ended when 21-year-old Daniel Mooney plowed his SUV head on into Ferrara?s patrol car. According to authorities, Mooney led police on a high-speed chase before the accident.Mooney's family had no comment as they left the courtroom. Inside, his defense attorney, Gary Abramson, said the DA pushed for an unjust and disproportionate sentence for the crime because the victim was a police officer. Mooney was sentenced as a second felony offender. Ironically, his past conviction involved another police chase where he also crashed his car.
