Playing with Fire: Fire inspector under investigation
Ramapo town attorney Michael Klein confirmed Tuesday that there will be a full investigation into the actions of Ramapo fire inspector Adam Peltz.
In a letter to the town, top officials from the Board of Education claimed Peltz issued clean inspections to several private schools in Ramapo where state inspectors later found serious safety violations.
If allegations against Peltz are true, Klein says he could be fired.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day is now demanding that the state turn over control of local inspections to his office, which they are not legally allowed to do.
"We would have a zero-tolerance policy. These are children who are in imminent danger of a fire," says Day. "Does it take kids in body bags to get everyone's attention?"
Klein says his investigation should be completed within a week.
There is still no word from the state Board of Education on what its next steps will be.
