Playing with Fire: Clock ticking for Ramapo reports
The investigation into Ramapo's fire inspector failed to conclude on Friday as expected, causing growing concern among residents.
Ramapo Fire Inspector Adam Peltz is accused of issuing passing inspections to a number of private schools despite dangerous conditions.
The allegations prompted the state to order Ramapo to fix its fire inspection process. The order came after News 12's exclusive investigation, "Playing with Fire."
Several mayors are now calling on the state to step in, including Suffern Mayor Ed Markuna. "On fire investigation, code enforcement, property maintenance issues, I believe the state should intervene and somebody should gather control and take control of the situation," he said.
On Monday, state officials gave the town 10 days to provide copies of its re-inspection reports, which as of Sunday have still not been turned in.
