Monroe-Woodbury SD cancels varsity hockey program

Posted: Updated:

Parents and students were outraged Wednesday after learning the Monroe-Woodbury School District's varsity ice hockey program was being canceled.

The district has cited budget and travel concerns as the reason for cutting the public school program, which was the last of its kind in Orange County.

Parents say the school district terminated the team with no notice and without giving them time to raise money to keep the ice hockey program going.

There is no word on when or if the school board will reverse its decision to eliminate program.
