CSX freight train strikes truck in HaverstrawPosted: Updated:
A CSX freight train hit a commercial truck carrying cars in Haverstraw on Wednesday.
A CSX spokesperson said the front car of the train struck the truck at the New Main Street crossing around 4:20 p.m.
The spokesperson said there were no injuries to the train crew members, nor was there damage to the train itself or leaks or spills from items it was carrying. There were a total of 124 cars plus two locomotives on the train, and the train did not derail.
The truck may have stalled on the tracks but the driver was able to escape uninjured before the impact of the locomotive.
The train was going from Selkirk, New York, to Newark, New Jersey.
Some residents tell News 12 that they would like to see a new system in place to stop these kind of accidents from happening.
Freight trains are running on the tracks today but the crossing is still closed to vehicle traffic.
