Middletown officials accuse Kiryas Joel of blackmail

Posted: Updated:

Middletown officials allege the Hasidic Jewish village of Kiryas Joel tried to blackmail them by filing a bogus lawsuit that was dropped last week.

The lawsuit criticized Middletown's use of a reservoir, claiming the village was denied access during a water crisis.

Kiryas Joel claimed in another lawsuit to have enough water to support its expansion plans for more than a decade.

News 12's calls to Kiryas Joel officials were not returned.
