Sewer smell disgusts Orangeburg residents

Posted: Updated:

A stinky situation in Rockland County has neighbors outraged.

People who live near the sewer treatment plant in Orangeburg say the odor from the plant has gotten unbearable.

One restaurant on Route 303 is postponing plans to build an outside dining area because of the smell. Neighbors say they've had enough. "Is it harmful, that's the biggest concern. You know, I've lived here for the last 20 years and it's, you know, been sporadic. But lately, the last couple of weeks, it's been pretty bad," says Orangeburg resident Mike Clark.

Sewer officials say they are fixing some equipment in the plant and the odors should go away over the next few days.
