Police search Yorktown for Mahopac homicide weapon
State and local police were in Yorktown Tuesday searching for evidence following the death of Mahopac resident Perla Gatchalian.
Gatchalian, 75, was found dead in her Putnam County home last Thursday.
Investigators focused their search Tuesday in a  wooded area off of Route 6.
Wearing plastic gloves, authorities measured an area and took photos. They were also seen examining a wooded patch and placing something in a box.
Authorities tell News 12 that investigators came to Yorktown looking for a weapon, but did not confirm if they found what they were looking for.
On Tuesday morning, sources tell News 12 that a man was found dead by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot in the same area of West Harrison as the search. Police have not confirmed the suicide and have not commented on whether the death is related to Gatchalian's death.
