Bill aims to prevent employers from asking about salary history
Sen. David Carlucci and Assemblywoman Sandy Galef are introducing a measure that would prevent employers from asking potential employees how much they were paid at previous jobs.
While the bill is tailored to help both men and women, Carlucci says it would change the course for women, especially women of color.
“We all know that these cultural biases exist, and it's been intergenerational as long as we can go back into our history in the written word. We could see there's been this discrepancy,” says Carlucci.
Recent studies show that on average a woman in New York makes 89 cents for every dollar a man makes.
