Newburgh man convicted of heroin possession
A Newburgh man is expected to spend more than a dozen years behind bars after being found guilty in a drug case.
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced Davonte Hawkins, 28, was convicted of possessing 491 “decks” of heroin on Aug. 2, 2016.
Prosecutors say Hawkins tossed the heroin, worth over $5,000, over a fence while trying to avoid police on Grand Street in Newburgh.
Hawkins is being held at the Orange County jail until he is sentenced in June.
