Dangerous deep freeze, frigid wind chills clutch region

NORWALK -

Dangerously cold temperatures and frigid wind chills are clutching Connecticut Monday.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory which is in effect until 1 p.m. Monday and a wind advisory which is in effect until 7 p.m.

News 12 meteorologists say frigid temperatures are hitting the region Monday with lows in the single digits. They say it will feel colder with wind chills from 0 to -10. Any standing water in the wake of the weekend storm froze over, and motorists are urged to use extreme caution on the roads. Gusty winds will be 20-30 mph with higher gusts possible.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will be mostly clear and dry but windy and dangerously cold. Temperatures will drop to near 10 degrees. Winds will be between 20-30 mph, and wind chill values will range from -5 to -15 degrees. 

Monday night will see clear skies and the winds will start to die down to 10-15 mph. The temperature will be 13 degrees.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny and not as cold with highs near 30 degrees.
