Storm drain issue may put Ardsley couple's home at risk
An Ardsley couple told News 12 that any time it rains, it causes major flooding in their backyard.
The flooding on the McKinley Avenue property has been linked to a 100-year-old village-owned storm drain that runs underneath their property, and has caused multiple sinkholes in their backyard.
After reporting the problem, they told News 12 that the village conducted a dye test and concluded that the drain was working properly.
"The village basically washed their hands of it and said it wasn't their issue," says homeowner Rachael Menthal.
A month ago, Methal says the problem got worse after a major downpour and that the flooding damaged her backyard steps and a retaining wall.
She says village officials have since come back and used a fire hose to conduct another test.
"On a bright sunny day, they put the fire hose down the storm drain again. A river in our backyard," says Menthal.
The family says they fear the foundation could be at risk due to the unresolved issue.
News 12 reached out to the village about this problem and was told the "village manager" was not available to speak with us at this time.
