Multiple people are sick after a chemical spill in Rockland County.
Police say the spill happened at the County Recycling Center in Hillburn around 8:30 a.m. today.
The unknown chemical was inhaled by line workers in the plant. "The line was running, and I came up there and saw everybody was coughing, so I had to stop the line [and] make them go and drink water. We thought it was something simple, but realized it was a chemical, they couldn't get over it," says Assistant Supervisor Bruce Powell.
The plant and the surrounding area is now safe after Rockland County Hazmat and Decontamination crews responded.
The victims were treated at the scene and released without any permanent harm. "When I got on scene we realized that we had a couple people with some throat injuries, like a rash inside their throat. It was up to three people with a possible fourth victim," says Hillburn Fire Chief Shane Starr.
