Hoboken Film Festival was a hit — or a dud

This year's Hoboken Film Festival, held in Greenwood Lake, was either a blockbuster or a dud -- it just depends on who you ask.
The waterfront village had high hopes for the festival, but some business owners there said the event fell short of their expectations.
They said the event should have advertised more to build up greater anticipation.
Mayor Jesse Dwyer said that attendance wasn't as good as officials had hoped it would be, but he added that they would work with festival coordinators on ways to improve sales moving forward.
Event coordinator Ken Del Vecchio declined to comment on box office sales, but he described the festival as "a major success in every way, shape or form."
"The attendance this year was phenomenal," he said.
Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano declined to renew Del Vecchio's contract after it expired last year, citing a similar controversy about the event's popularity.
"The attendance figures were not what the promoter was publicly stating," DeStefano said.
Greenwood Lake has agreed to pay $135,000 to host the event through 2019.
"I wish Greenwood Lake well," DeStefano added. "For us, it didn't work."
