New Rochelle gets $250,000 grant for Beechmont Lake
A $250,000 grant is being used to help a popular body of water in New Rochelle keep its beauty.
Officials announced Wednesday that the state grant will help restore Beechmont Lake.
They say cleaning it up is necessary for the water's ecological health and the environment.
Neighbors also say maintaining its beauty improves quality of life for the community. "The planting, the trees, the animals, the fish, and many, many people use the lake or pass by the lake continuously either going to work or coming from work or on weekends," says Beechmont Association President Victor Stanionis.
The grant will also strengthen Beechmont Lake's water retention capacity and prevent flooding.
