MONSEY -

Ramapo rescue workers pulled a baby deer from a storm drain Friday morning.

Police found it on Miriam Lane in Monsey.

After the frightened animal resisted initial attempts, police got a hold of it and lifted it to safety.

Bear Mountain zoologist Melissa Gillmer says doe typically leave their babies to feed but don't go far away. So it was no surprise that the mother and fawn apparently reunited after the rescue.

"If the mother didn't come back, the fawn would most likely be in the same spot," Gillmer says.

Police say they returned to the spot where they released the fawn and it wasn't there.
