15-foot python removed from home

NEW WINDSOR -

A change in state law is causing some trouble for an Orange County pet owner.

A New Windsor man had his 15-foot, 119-pound Albino Python removed from his home by the DEC last week.

A neighbor saw the snake outside and complained.

Edwin Acevedo says he bought the reptile six years ago from a pet shop in New Jersey and has never had a problem until now. "I feel violated, like they just ripped my child away. The worst thing anyone can go through," says Acevedo.

A representative for the DEC says the state no longer offers permits for pythons and that it's illegal to have one.
