Rye Playland pool to get $9M renovation
A 90-year-old pool at Rye Playland will be getting a multimillion-dollar makeover.
County legislators approved more than $9 million in renovations to the pool at the county-owned amusement park.
The original plan would have removed the pool by filling it and replaced it with beachfront restaurant space overlooking the Long Island Sound.
Ahead of a vote Monday night, Chairman Mike Kaplowitz and co-chair Jim Maisano were still at odds on the pool's future.
"It's a very limited pool season. It's a great thing to have. It's just far too expensive, and I think with cost overruns, I think it's going to be a small fortune that's going to cost all people of Westchester County for years to come," says Kaplowitz.
Maisano say that the pool is historic, so it's important to protect it for the young residents.
