State Senate approves 9/11 sickness billPosted: Updated:
The state Senate unanimously approved new legislation that is being hailed as major step forward for New York police officers who developed 9/11-related illnesses.
The measure would cover the cost of unlimited sick time for former city police officers who are now working in county or village police departments.
Right now, those officers are caught in insurance limbo since they are no longer employed by city and their sicknesses weren't caused by something that happened on duty with their new department.
Gov. Cuomo supports the measure.
