Officials: Anti-LGBT graffiti discovered at state park
Rockland officials say hateful graffiti targeting the LGBT community was found at Blauvelt State Park.
The graffiti was found spray-painted on rocks on a hiking trail inside Blauvelt State Park. The graffiti is just the latest in a troubling string of hate vandalism found throughout Rockland County.
Someone spray-painted swastikas on sidewalks and stop signs over the weekend in Spring Valley. There was more anti-Jewish vandalism at Hi Tor State Park earlier in the month.  In May, someone broke into a Haverstraw home and spray-painted "No Jews" and other anti-Semitic remarks throughout the house.
County Executive Ed Day says he is very disturbed by the incidents. He says his Human Rights Commission is looking at a variety of ways to help bring an end to it.
“We have to educate people that swastikas and that going after any group is going after every group,” he says.
Officials from the Rockland Pride Center say they look forward to working with community leaders, faith leaders and elected officials to address the rising number of hate incidents in the county.
