Indian Point Reactor #2 shut down

BUCHANAN -

A faulty water pump has shut down one of two power plants at Indian Point Energy Center in Buchanan.

Entergy Corporation, the owner and operator of the nuclear power plant, says Unit 2 closed Monday afternoon.

Officials say no radioactive material was released, and there was no threat to workers or the public's safety.

This is the second time a plant had to shut down this month. Unit 3 was temporarily closed to repair a leaky water seal earlier this month.

The plant is scheduled to close by 2021.
