MONSEY -

A Spring Valley man is behind bars this morning after police say he hit a mother and her kids with his car Monday afternoon.

According to police, Albert Gomez, 62, of Spring Valley, plowed into a mother who was walking with her daughters, ages eight and 13, near the Town Square Mall on Route 59 in Monsey. She was also pushing her 3-month-old son in a stroller

Police tell News 12 that witnesses told them that Gomez was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on Route 59 when a white taxi cut him off, sending him into a rage. People say they saw him throw a cup out the window, began weaving in and out of traffic, and finally struck the family of four.

The names of the family have not been released. All are being treated at Westchester Medical Center where the infant boy underwent emergency surgery.
Authorities say Gomez is facing a slew of charges, including two felony counts of second-degree assault, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. Police are still investigating, and say additional charges may be pending.

Gomez is being held on $150,000 bail at the Rockland County Jail.
