Ramapo celebrates town supervisor convictionPosted: Updated:
Some neighbors in Ramapo celebrated the corruption conviction of the former town supervisor on Tuesday.
Dozens gathered at the Waterwheel Restaurant to applaud a jury's decision to convict Christopher St. Lawrence.
St. Lawrence was found guilty for inflating the town's finances to purchase municipal bonds. The money was used to build the baseball stadium in Pomona.
People are now hoping for a new chapter in the town's government. "This gives us probably the best chance in so many years to actually affect the town of Ramapo, to get it back to where it needs to be," says Jim Barnard, of Ramapo.
St. Lawrence is expected to be sentenced in December. His attorney plans to appeal the conviction.
