Private colleges opt into tuition discount program

Posted: Updated:
YONKERS -

At least half a dozen private schools across the Hudson Valley are taking the state up on its new tuition discount program.

Concordia in Bronxville, Mercy in Dobbs Ferry, Nyack College in South Nyack, Pace University in Pleasantville, Mount Saint Mary in Newburgh and Dominican College in Orangeburg have all been enrolling in the state's Enhanced Tuition Award program.

That means students whose families earn less than $100,000 can apply for a $6,000 discount at any of these non-profit, private schools.

Meanwhile, SUNY students will be paying more money for tuition this fall. The rate is going up by $200 or about 3 percent for a tuition of around $6,700. The rate hike will not affect students who qualify for the state's Excelsior Scholarship.
