Officers go undercover to research dangerous roads

MONSEY -

Ramapo police went undercover Wednesday to see to see firsthand how dangerous some of the town's roads and crosswalks are.

The operation comes a few days after a driver hit a family of four on Route 59 in Monsey.

An officer walked through a bustling intersection on Route 306 in Monsey, and drivers who did not stop or slow down were ticketed.

"As I walked through the crosswalk, my sergeant radio downed to officers who were waiting on an adjacent roadway," said Ramapo Police Officer Omar Olayan.

Penalties could include fines, points or even time behind bars.

Ramapo police say the next step is ticketing pedestrians who jaywalk and don't use the proper crosswalks.
