Visitors looking to shop and eat dinner along the Newburgh waterfront were greeted by an unlikely visitor this week.
A black bear was spotted at the busy waterfront Wednesday afternoon just feet away from the ferry, businesses and restaurants. People in the area say they've never heard of anyone seeing a bear in Newburgh.
Wildlife experts say it's not surprising the bear would be without its mother and was likely drawn by the smell of food.
The bear was safely caught by Department of Environmental Conservation officials and will be released back into the wild.
