Lowe’s opened its doors for a soft opening at Ridge Hill in Yonkers today.

The home improvement store has 70,000-square feet of shopping space plus a 14,000-square feet of garden appliances next door.

The business has created about 125 jobs, and News 12 is told that it is still looking to hire more cashiers.

Residents in the area say they are excited for the retail chain to open.

"It's a very convenient store for us," says Maria Andreyko, of Yonkers. "You always find something you need at the house."

The grand opening will be next Thursday. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held, and a check will be given to Habitat for Humanity to build garden areas at schools in Yonkers.
