An 18-year-old man possibly drowned at Pine Meadow Lake inside Harriman State Park Thursday, police say.
An eyewitness told News 12 that the teenager was trying to swim between the peninsula and the mainland with his friends. When his friends got to the other side, they realized the victim was missing and dove back in to look for him.
News 12 is told that after several minutes they found him, pulled him out of the water and started CPR. The eyewitness said that the teenager's friends got a pulse but it wasn't consistent.
Emergency crews took over chest compressions when they arrived on scene shortly after 3:30 p.m., but it was too late.
State park police say the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police swarmed the intersection of Seven Lakes Drive and Pine Meadow Road for several hours after the incident.
The eyewitness also told News 12 that one of victim's friends said he may have had asthma.
