Greenburgh woman sentenced for fatal head-on crash

GREENBURGH -

A Greenburgh woman who drove drunk and killed an elderly couple in a head-on crash will spend between four and 12 years in prison.

Investigators say that 43-year-old Michelle Bonet hit Carmelo and Henrietta Sbezzi, of Tarrytown, on West Hartsdale Avenue in Hartsdale in October 2016. The couple, both in their 80s, died at Westchester Medical Center.

Toxicology tests showed Bonet's blood-alcohol content was over .25 percent. Drugs were also found in her system.

Bonet cried through most of the sentencing and admitted she has both alcohol and untreated mental health issues. She expressed sorrow and regret for causing the deaths and said she understands if the Sbezzi family can never forgive her.
