Poll: Trump’s approval rating still low

NEW YORK -

It's now been six months since President Trump took office, and according to a new CNN poll, many Americans don't have much faith in the billionaire businessman.

A CNN poll released Monday shows Trump's approval rating is 38 percent. "He told people, 'You know, I'm going to be such a good president, that you won't believe it.'  Well, most people, overwhelmingly most people, don't believe up to now that he's been a good president," says former news anchor Dan Rather

Only one other newly elected president had an approval rating below 50 percent at this point in his presidency and that was Bill Clinton, who was at 44 percent.

According to the poll, 60 percent of the 1,000 people surveyed said they consider the president dishonest. “If you can't have faith that your public servants are telling you the truth, you're reinforcing every cynicism in this government," says political strategist Margaret Hoover.

Many GOP voters are also not pleased with the president. "There is a split among Republicans. Forty-eight percent of Republicans don't believe a little bit or anything at all of what's coming out of the White House," says CNN Political Director David Chalian.

Trump is in New Jersey on a working vacation. He'll be in New York next week for additional meetings.
