Yonkers officers take part in Summer Reading Buddies program

YONKERS -

Several Yonkers police officers read books to children participating in the Summer Reading Buddies program at the Riverfront Library Tuesday.

Organizers say the event helps children improve their reading skills and prepare for the coming school year in a fun environment.

"Helping the children read keeps them onboard, keeps them ready for school, helps them prepare for the next year," says Janice Lubin Kirschner, of the JCY-Westchester Community Partners.

Parents taking part in the workshops also received crime prevention information.
