Newburgh firefighters adopt puppy rescued from burning buildingPosted: Updated:
Two firefighters in Orange County have adopted a puppy they rescued from a burning building.
City of Newburgh firefighters Lt. Tim Dexter and James Moore were among the rescuers who found the puppy inside a fire-ravaged apartment on First Street in Newburgh.
The puppy, who was later named Titus, was found badly burned Thursday beneath charred debris on the second floor. The conditions were so bad that Titus' brother, who was also inside the burning building, did not survive.
Dexter and Moore decided to adopt Titus, who was suffering from third-degree burns. He was treated on the scene and at an area veterinary hospital.
They named Titus after the Greek word "titos" for fire.
