A former NYPD officer has been arrested for animal cruelty after 11 horses were found dead on her property in Goshen.
The SPCA says they first found four starved horses at Argus Farm on Gate Schoolhouse Road. They later discovered a fifth deceased horse inside the barn - a newborn found in a nursing position next to its deceased mother.
SPCA officials say that discovery led them to find six other horse carcasses in the woods nearby.
While the cause of death for those animals remains unknown, the findings were enough to charge the owner, Jeanie Ryan, with animal cruelty.
News 12 spoke exclusively to Ryan last week. She wouldn't comment on the allegations but said they were a "domestic issue involving her son."
Authorities say one horse has been removed from the property, but several others remain. Police say their hands are tied for now because the horses that remain appear to be in good condition.
Ryan is due in court in September. She faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
