Hudson Valley mobilizes for Texas

Posted: Updated:
HAWTHORNE -

Volunteers from the Hudson Valley have headed to the disaster area in Texas to help with the relief efforts.

More than 200 Red Cross emergency response vehicles from across the country, including some from Hawthorne, are heading to Louisiana, where a staging area has been set up.

Once they get to the relief site, the trucks are filled with food, cots, blankets, cleaning supplies and other items desperately needed by flood victims. Officials say the trucks can also hold up to 1,000 hot meals at a time. Once filled, the trucks and volunteers head to the affected areas in Texas.

The trucks also have PA systems so that volunteers can alert people in the area to come get what they need.

Air National Guardsmen from New York state are also being deployed to help in Texas.
