A crash on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers left a young woman dead, her fiance injured and the driver facing criminal charges.
Nina Cordero, a 19-year-old backseat passenger in a BMW, was riding with an unbuckled seatbelt Saturday night. The impact ejected her through the sunroof, resulting in her death.
"I don't want parents to go through what we're going through," said her father, Edwin Cordero.
Her fiance survived the crash without serious injuries, and the driver, Renzo Yance, faces charges of aggravated unlicensed driving, reckless driving and speeding.
Police say they may tack on more charges once the investigation is complete.
The funeral for Cordero, who graduated Roosevelt High School, is planned for Friday, but friends and relatives gathered Tuesday evening for a vigil in her memory.
"This means everything to me," Cordero's father told the gathering. "This is support."
