First-time students learn school bus safety in Yonkers

YONKERS -

Yonkers School District offered first-time students the opportunity to ride a school bus one week before school is scheduled to start in the city.

It's all a part of the "First Time Riders School Bus Safety and School Orientation Program." The kids got to explore the bus and learn how to use the handrail and seat belts.

Anxious parents watched as their kids were escorted on and off the bus.

"She's pretty excited," says Wilda Flores. "I'm sure she won't say goodbye. She will go on by herself, I'll be the one crying."

The students will ride the bus for real when schools in Yonkers open on Sept. 7.
