Back-to-school season is in full swing, and the staff from East Ramapo schools were ringing in the new school year with an annual tradition today.

Staff from the East Ramapo Central School District’s 13 schools gathered at their annual conference at Rockland Community College. This wasn’t your average staff meeting, with organizers stressing a “Rise Up” theme complete with balloons, a live marching band, and musical performances. "Today we are celebrating growth and we're celebrating proficiency. The East Ramapo Central School District is going all the way up. We are rising up," says Superintendent Dr. Deborah Wortham.

The ceremony was highlighted by a powerful musical performance by a high school senior, and other students held flags representing all of the different nationalities within the district.

All of the teachers will head back to their classrooms on Wednesday to welcome a new batch of students. "These kids need to have a bright future, rise up, and succeed!" says Kakiat Elementary teacher Jasmine Nunez.
