Security increased around temples for Rosh Hashanah

Local police departments are increasing their presence and security around synagogues during the Jewish Holy Days.
Among the towns stepping up security is White Plains, where town Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says they plan for higher security, additional resources and plainclothes officers on duty as part of their plan for protection at synagogues.
Chong says White Plains has had heightened security every year around the Jewish Holy Days, but this year extra security has stemmed from the rise in hate crimes and anti-Semitic violence in the area and around the world.
"It really is a shame we're seeing a rise in these incidents, we do take them very seriously and certainly we will respond," says Chong.
Police presence at area synagogues will continue on Friday for the remainder of Rosh Hashanah, and again next weekend for Yom Kippur.
