Residents across the Hudson Valley are doing whatever they can to help out those affected by recent natural disasters, including Hurricane Maria and the earthquakes in Mexico.
A donation drive was held at Columbus Elementary School in New Rochelle, where volunteers sorted and labeled items to be taken directly to those hardest hit in Puerto Rico and Mexico City.
"People are so generous," says Griselda Garcia, of the Hands of Hope foundation. "We just started calling yesterday and look - we now have a lot."
In Mamaroneck, another fundraiser was held.
"We're collecting water, canned food, any baby items, diapers and baby milk, especially stuff in powder form for the babies," says organizer Liliana Mendoza.
Boxes will be put out in the main lobby of Columbus Elementary School for those who wish to donate but could not attend Saturday's event.
Organizers say everything will be shipped out to families in need next weekend.
