Police officer shot in Yonkers; 1 suspect shot, another in custodyPosted: Updated:
Yonkers officials said Monday night that a female police officer was shot in the face in the area of Marshall Road and Ridge Drive.
Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said two officers responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle that contained two occupants around 8 p.m. As the officers approached, he said at least one of the male suspects took out a weapon and fired several shots, striking the female officer in the jaw.
The officers returned fire, Gardner said, and struck one of the suspects, who was taken to a hospital for surgery; the extent of his injuries were unknown. The other was taken into custody.
The injured officer, who was not identified but works out of the city's Third Precinct, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx in serious but stable condition.
Gardner said a handgun was recovered from the scene. He added that while there were initial reports of authorities seeking a third perpetrator, police were not look for any other suspects.
