New trial denied for St. Lawrence

Posted: Updated:

A federal judge has denied the former Ramapo Town supervisor's request for a new trial.

The judge disagreed with Christopher St. Lawrence's lawyers who argued that the jury lacked evidence to convict him on 20 counts of securities fraud and conspiracy.

In May, the jury found St. Lawrence guilty on federal charges over the financing of a baseball stadium in Pomona.

St. Lawrence is set to be sentenced in November. The fraud counts carry prison terms of 20 years, while conspiracy carries a five-year sentence.
