MOUNT VERNON -

A Mount Vernon teenager is in jail today, accused of shooting his grandmother.

Police say Alquane Atkinson, 17, shot at his 60-year-old grandmother as she pulled into her driveway Tuesday. One bullet pierced the car and grazed her leg, police say.

The teen's grandfather, Lloyd Quelch, tells News 12 that his grandson stole $4,000 from him, which prompted the grandparents to kick him out of their home. "We put him out. That's why he come back [and] say he gonna kill everybody here," says Quelch.

Ten other people were in the house at the time of the incident, but no one else was hurt.

Police were able to recover a gun, and arrested Atkinson. Charges against Atkinson include attempted assault and attempted robbery.

Police say  Atkinson is also suspected of assaulting a cab driver with the same gun he allegedly used to shoot his grandmother.
He is currently being held on $250,000 bail.
