Fire damages New City condo

A condo was damaged after an early morning fire in New City.
Fire officials say they got the call around 6:30 a.m. from a neighbor that smoke was coming from a second-floor unit at the New City Apartments on Heritage Drive.
It took about 50 firefighters to put out the flames, and they say thankfully it didn't spread to the first floor. “We have no one displaced now. The men did an excellent job. The crew came in to see if anyone was inside. That proved negative. It was a quick knockdown in 10 minutes,” says New City Secondary Fire Chief John Latanzio.
No one was injured by the fire.
While it is still unclear what caused the blaze, it does not appear to be suspicious.
