Moments before their crashed car burst into flames, strangers pulled a married couple from the vehicle over the weekend.
Alejandro Rivera Sr. and his wife lost control of their car on Route 17 in Goshen. They wound up underneath a tractor-trailer.
"I heard that is was only three to four minutes after they got them out, and the car exploded," says Catherine Bueno, the victims' daughter. "So if it wasn't for all of those wonderful heroes, this would be a different story."
Nick Delury, of White Plains, was among the good Samaritans who pulled them from the wreckage.
"It was like something you would see in a movie," Delury says. "It was horrible."
The Riveras were both seriously hurt, but they survived.
"My father sustained fractured bones, and he is in a lot of pain as of today," Bueno says. "My mom was critical. She sustained injuries -- broken collarbone, trauma to the head."
The Rivera family says it's planning to invite all of the good Samaritans to a big Puerto Rican party this summer to show appreciation for the selfless act of kindness.
