More than 200 Putnam County residents gathered Sunday at the Carmel Fire Department for a walk to remember loved ones lost, and raise awareness and money for suicide prevention.
The funds from the event will go towards suicide prevention programs and research.
"One in six of us knows someone that has died from suicide, every 15 minutes someone dies from suicide and what’s very alarming is it’s the second leading cause of death among high school and college students,” says Steve Dolce, of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Diana Limitone, of Brewster, says that she lost her mother to suicide 3 ½ years ago.
It was Limitone's first year at the event, and she says she recruited 30 people to participate, raising the most money.
"We raised about $5,000 when my goal was $500," she says.
