Police: 'Operation Trick or Treat' nets major drug bustPosted: Updated:
Westchester County authorities announced the apprehension of over two dozen alleged drug dealers on Halloween as part of an operation named "Trick or Treat."
Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office said 25 suspects were in custody, and a half dozen remained at large.
"These investigations are continuing," Gardner said, focusing on the suspects not yet apprehended. "We will target you. We will hunt you down. And we will hold you accountable for your actions."
The roundup was part of a 14-month narcotics investigation that resulted in felony charges.
Authorities said the alleged drug dealers have a combined 300 prior arrests. Some of them are known gang members.
The operation netted nearly 400 bags of heroin, 40 grams of crack cocaine, PCP and prescription drugs -- all allegedly purchased from the group.
The country sees about 140 opioid-related deaths every day, according to Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano.
