Possible TZx bus service change concerns commuters

NEW CITY -

A Tappan Zee Express bus route could be changing, causing concern among commuters.

Linda Taubs, of New City, says she likes her daily work commute from Rockland County to Manhattan.

"I enjoy the commute, the people that I meet," she says. "I just don't want it to be that much longer."

Taubs and many other riders are concerned because the Tappan Zee Express bus service could be changed by this time next year.

The state Department of Transportation is evaluating the service under a new program called the Lower Hudson Transit Link. Rockland commuters say they were told at a recent public meeting that an express bus between Lot J of the Palisades Center and Tarrytown's Metro-North station could be rerouted to White Plains.

"I think it would inconvenience a terrible amount of commuters," says commuter Adam Power.

But DOT officials say commuters' frustrations may be premature.

"Public feedback is still coming in, and a fourth public meeting about the service will be held early next year," according to a statement from a department spokesperson. "The service plan will not be finalized until we've considered all of the valuable feedback from the public."
